The nature is rioting, the land is flourishing, and the youth is having a lot of fun — this is somehow Ukrainians remember the Trinity

The Trinity - a bit of holiday history and its features

The history of the feast begins with the Resurrection of Christ when the Holy Spirit came. Since then, the Trinity marks three hypostases of the God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

This day was also celebrated by Jews and considered to be Pentecostal as honor for giving the Law from Moses on Mount Sinai. "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit," Peter addressed the Jewish people.

Every day of holidays has its own name and customs. For example, people call the first day Green Sunday or day of mermaids and forest creatures. Family read the prays and ask God for a rich harvest on green Monday. During the last day the young lads choose their brides.

The youth had having a lot of fun, dancing and singing songs for Trinity week. Ukrainian girls created custom to dress one of them in a poplar and rove with her through yards.

Interesting traditions of celebration and prohibition on the Trinity

1) If you see the dew on the Trinity, don’t be afraid to wash with it, because it is very useful for beauty and health

2) Gathering the herbs is permitted, but work on land isn’t recommended to save from misfortune

3) It is special tradition to prepare eggs, which are prayed for the happiness of the young couple

4) Girls love collecting wild flowers on this day and bring them home (if they don’t fade away till Sunday, the owners will have long and happy life)

5) Symbol of holiday is not a poplar, but birch. It is famous for its energy and growth

6) Weaving wreath was an unusual ritual, every girl does it in a secret place away from the evil eye

7) Celebrations were accompanied by sanctification of the wells, because our ancestors believed that their mermaids hid

in the field

People actively prepare for the coming of hot summer during this period of time, restoring mental balance and gaining strength for the whole year.
